Help for Cartographers
Hello ANet :-)
I have been trying to get some Cartographers titles and I found that the way it is implemented, although possible, it is VERY cumbersome. I know that you will tell me that it is supposed to be difficult to get the GrandMaster Cartographer title. I will agree with you. But isn't it difficult and extremely time consuming for someone to go through ALL the map even once?!!
My suggestions are :
1. Whenever you enter an explorable area or City/Outpost, next to the name that appears briefly in the beginning, you can add a % number denoting the % uncovered by the specific character.
This is going to be a great help for someone that has 96.8% of the map uncovered and doesn't know which parts of the map he/she has missed. It is really unproductive, disheartening and plainly time devouring to go through all the maps, or start comparing 100% opened maps with what you have, in order to find the differences.
By using this technique you will be able to "pinpoint" the explorable area that is not fully uncovered.
2. If you want to make it even easier, you can do this :
When someone is looking at the map by hitting "M", he/she could press a combination of keys (eg. ctrl+alt+M) which will show in a bright clear color the parts of the map of the specific territory he is in, that are not uncovered. This could be a toggle combination.
ANet has gone into so much trouble and have really thought through this game to get rid of the cumbersome, frustrating, unproductive, infuriating aspects of other MMORPG games. Map traver is just one of them.
This is what makes this game, really stand out of the croud. I am sure that ANet's intention is not to have players go though every corner of the map, over and over again just to get the titles.
Thank you for listening :-)

As much as I agree that at times, getting 100% is frustrating and hard, its not impossible and it doesnt need anything like this.
I have 100% on all 3, and it was sooooooooooooooo frustrating. Tyria being the worst. But once you have it, you have such a huge sense of achievement.
If we added % for areas and highlighted sections for missed parts, then it would be ALOT easier.
Players who dont want 100% already try to tell us that its a noob title, which anyone can get easily. By adding these features, you'd be giving those players even more of an excuse to keep saying that.
Just stick at it and use the map comparison technique.

Thanks for letting me know :-)
I didn't find it in the suggested proposals sticky so that is why I posted.
I believe that this is smt that should be included.

First of all I agree that the more difficult is getting the title, the greater pleasure you have from displaying it.
Also there are some changes comming (according to Gail) and there will be combined titles.
Finally (if anyone from Arena Net is actually reading this post), combining the title is best idea I heard. So far you could display only one title and thats all.
Why not go further ? Combine different types of titles. For example if someone have Lightbringer at r5, GMC of all continents, and Drunkard at r1, that person would have "Glowing and a bit Tipsy International Grand Master Cartogtrapher" or having Gladiator at r2, Unlucky at r3 and Trasure Hunter at r1 would be "Fumbling Swordsman With Golden Teeth". Combinations are the way to go.
And please, don't get me wrong. Even having just International titles is huge improvement and I like it !

Just adding an option to disable the clouds on the M map would help enormously.

Marcin please don't get me wrong.
I will agree with you that the more difficult the more pride.
What I am saying is that being trivially boring, frustrating and totaly unproductive is not my idea of "difficult".
And I hope not ANET's idea either. Or so it seems by what they've done so far. Otherwise they would ask us to travel on foot between two cities, and maybe do quests traveling from Ascalon to Beetletun and back for 500gp.
I am sure that there would be people saying that this is the way to go, and that the most difficult the quest the more proud you are to have done it. But the majority would probably look for something else to play.
The enjoyment I get from this game is that with a couple of hours a day I can do something meaningfull and enjoyable. This is why I like the game and I am not playing WoW or EVE Online or even Lineage II. Which I have played in the past.
If you want to make it difficult, do something else than asking people to go wall huging for weeks. This is not difficult (just trivial and time consuming). It is not even enjoyable. It is not productive and certainly not educating for the player.
btw Where can I read what ANet is planning for in the future?

Then maybe this title isn't for you.
If you play through each campaign and clear an area of all monsters and explore each area. I guarantee that you will get this title.

Dude, maybe it would help alot, but IT SHOULD NOT BE EASY!!!!
It took me like 2 months of playing (Im online as an average teenager) to uncover 100% of Elona... and there is things on the web that can help.
Why make things thats not impossible easier? The Kind of a Big Deal title should be a CHALLENGE, not a dance on roses!

Had 100% Tyria for a while and got 100% Eloan today . Even if I didn't have them I would vote against this change. It would just be too easy. Map to explorable check it 100%, okay, it is. Repeat until you find one that isn't and skirt the edges. Toooo easy dude. While this would help if I did want to do Cantha, which I might, I don't want it just makes it even more boring imo.

I have had 98.3% for tyria forever... I have retraced the world tracked each region on paper... 3 times
Sad to say I think that as a NON PvP person I am screwed since I NEVER been to the lower level arena's which I believe count against me.
I would love for Gaile or someone to assure me that the PvP arena's DO NOT COUNT for a PvE title.
But I have asked this before and been told there is a BUFFER but not by anyone like Gaile to confirm that. Told there is basicly 105% to explore. If that is the case how do I get my last 1.7% if there is a buffer? when I have retraced the world 3 times and this is AFTER getting 98.3%
Oh and even with this trouble...

If explore is the same as hugging every wall, you'd be entirely correct.
